A 33-year-old caretaker of a gamefowl farm was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Lipahan, San Juan, Batangas.

Based on police investigation, the victim’s companion at the farm heard a gunshot and found the caretaker wounded.

The companion immediately sought assistance from the barangay.

Witnesses reported that the suspect, wearing a black jacket, fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The victim was taken to a hospital but died eventually.

A bullet case of a .45 caliber gun was recovered from the crime scene.

"Sa ngayon, ongoing kami sa backtracking sa mga CCTV para magkaroon kami ng lead. Magre-request din kami sa mga adjacent area. ‘Yung na-recover naming basyo, ire-request namin sa crime sa crime lab for crossmatching," PMAJ. Erickson Go, Deputy Chief of San Juan Police Station, said.

Police said the victim has been looking after the farm for almost 10 years.

"Matagal na po silang caretaker doon, almost 10 years na silang nakatira roon, pero meron din silang bahay na malapit doon dahil itong ka-live-in niya ay taga-roon din sa malapit sa barangay na ‘yun," Go added.

Authorities said the victim's previous involvement with drugs may be a possible motive.

“Doon sa motive na tinitingnan namin, possible na [drugs related kasi] dating siya [na] drug surrenderee… maaaring nandoon din, hindi namin inaalis na drug related, or kung meron pa kaming ibang makikitang motibo," Go said.

Investigation is ongoing as of this writing.
