Police arrested a farmer for allegedly throwing his seven-month-old baby to the ground in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested a day after he ran away and hid in San Miguel town.
Investigators said the mother asked her husband to put their baby girl to sleep as she was still pounding coffee beans but instead of doing so, the man opened the window and threw the baby to the ground. The child hit her head hit on the stairs. She did not make it to the hospital alive.
“While nagalubok sila sa gawas, mikalit og abri (sa bintana) ang iyang bana, giitsa ang bata sa ilang tungod. Ang bata naigo bitaw sa may kahoy kay naa ma’y hagdanan,” Captain Rodrigo Dumangas Jr. of the Magsaysay Municipal Police Station said.
The man will face face parricide charges. He declined to give a statement.
On the other hand, the mother is set to undergo counseling and will receive livelihood assistance from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
