The offices of the Social Security System (SSS) in Naga City, Camarines Sur and Legazpi City, Albay have resumed regular operations after a bomb threat led to a temporary evacuation of employees and clients on February 12, 2024.

Authorities later confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax, having also been received by government offices and agencies in other parts of Luzon and the country.

At around 3 p.m. on February 12, employees and clients had to be evacuated from the SSS offices as a precautionary measure following the fake bomb threat.

"May emergency daa kaya po si pinaka main po kan office, tapos nagruluwas na po si mga may transaction sa laog pati si mga empleyado," Marluv Sy, a security guard at the SSS Naga branch, said.

The Naga City Police Office (NCPO) Station 2 and Explosive Ordnance Division responded immediately.

No explosive device was found, and operations resumed after clearance from authorities.

Apart from the SSS offices, several government offices and agencies across Luzon reported receiving similar bomb threats.

Some educational institutions and workplaces in North and Central Luzon suspended classes and work temporarily.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) described the bomb threat as a hoax, allegedly originating from someone in Japan. However, Japan had clarified that the email was sent by someone who allegedly stole the identity of a Japanese person and sent the email from a hotel server in the country that was compromised.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has initiated an investigation under the directive of Jesus Crispin Remulla, the Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
