Nine traffic enforcers of the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU) were terminated from service.

The nine traffic aides were dismissed for alleged misconduct recorded since December 2023.

According to ICTMU Chief Uldarico Garbanzos, a retired colonel, extortion activities top reportedly the reasons for the termination.

"May mga entrapment. May pictures kaming nakuha. That is why upon our recommendation, it was approved na i-terminate sila…this is part of our disciplinary action and maintaining the integrity,” Garbanzos said.

Despite a trim-down in the number of personnel, ICTMU is confident of the efficiency of its service as it is more important to clear the office first of "bad eggs."

Garbanzos appealed to the public to report immediately any member of the traffic group found to be involved in illegal activities.

"Jamir," a 23-year-old traffic aide, said that the termination serves as a deterrent to fellow enforcers thinking of tarnishing the integrity of the organization.

“Okay lang yung pagiging istrikto ni Sir Garbanzos upang magbago na ang ibang kasamahan. Hindi ko gusto na ipakain sa pamilya ko ang galing sa kinukuha sa mga driver,” Jamir said.

Following the termination, ICTMU is now hiring new enforcers.

“Basta college level or Criminology graduate while waiting sa kanilang eligibility, pwede silang pumunta dito at mag-apply sa aming opisina,” Garbanzos announced.
