Over 30 structures made mostly of light materials were razed to the ground in Dimasalang Street, Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City at past noontime on February 14, 2024.

Firefighters battled it out with the blaze at 12:42 p.m. and by 1:55 p.m. a fire-out was declared.

Vehicles parked by the roadside were also gutted. Damages were estimated to have reached around P6 million.

Harold Alcontin of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office that was one of fire responders said that the fire was quick to spread because most of the residences were built out of light materials.

The first alarm was raised immediately to second alarm for more units to respond, Alcontin said.

The fire was later raised to fourth alarm.

A Chinese school in the area was conducting classes when the fire broke out, he said.

Alcontin reminded the public that unplugged appliances and improperly connected electrical extensions could cause fire.

Nobody was reported hurt in the incident.
