Animals like cats and dogs were also affected by the massive landslide that killed at least 92 people in Maco, Davao de Oro on February 6, 2024.
The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has, so far, rescued 23 dogs and 27 cats from ground zero in Barangay Masara and in Barangay Mainit.
PVO Assistant Department Head, Dr. Headyn Cenabre, said the animals were given immediate health care services including food, vitamins, and vaccination.
“We are going to continue the rescue. So far we haven’t covered the whole area and we have seen many stray dogs some of them were really hungry and some of them were really scared.
A total of 127 dogs were also given animal health care services at different evacuation centers.
The team is also coordinating with private partners for donations such as food, cages, among others.
The animals rescued are housed temporarily at an impounding area in Mawab town.
