A cement mixer truck, which was loaded with cement for a bridge project in Barangay Balanga, Ibaan, Batangas, plunged into a five-meter-deep pit after its brakes reportedly malfunctioned.

The driver of the truck was injured and was brought to a hospital nearby.

Police said the driver noticed the problem with the brake while navigating a steep portion of the road.

"Medyo matarik 'yung lugar, so napansin niya na nawalan siya ng preno, then nu'ng napansin niyang nawalan siya ng preno, nanabihan na siya papuntang gilid," PCPL. Dennise De Silva, the investigator on the case from Ibaan Police Station, said.

Workers at the construction site were taken by surprise when they heard cries for help.

"'Narine ho ako, narine!' Sabing gay-on, edi binunot po nila doon sa baba," Noel Canaria, a co-worker of the victim, said.

The incident also damaged two motorcycles parked by the road.

The company operating the cement mixer has reportedly assured it will cover the cost of repair on the motorcycles.

"Sasagutin daw ng company 'yung dalawang motorsiklo na nasira. Nagkausap na naman 'yung may-ari ng motor atsaka 'yung kanilang representative," De Silva said.

Authorities advised companies to inspect their heavy equipment or vehicles regularly to avoid possible accidents.
