The two-week-old baby reported kidnapped in Davao City was found abandoned on the sidewalk at a market about one to two kilometers away from where the alleged kidnapping happened.
Based on a blotter from Police Station 2 of the Davao City Police Office, two people found the child abandoned on the sidewalk of a market evening on February 20, 2024.
“Please be informed that on February 20, 2024 at about 9:30 p.m., the said missing child was seen unattended along the sidewalk of Metro Circle, Barangay 2A, Davao City,” police said.
Those who found the baby, residents of Purok 3, Barangay Magtood, turned the child over to the police.
“Accordingly, they noticed a protruding leg wrapped in a piece of cloth. When they opened it, they saw an infant and they immediately reported it to the nearby police who brought them to the police station. Further, the said infant was endorsed to the parents,” police said.
The police will continue its investigation into the incident to identify the woman who befriended the child's mother and took the baby away at Centennial Park.
That day, the mother traveled with the baby to the hospital to get the result of the newborn screening. When she disembarked with the child from the jeepney on San Pedro and CM Recto streets, a woman reportedly approached them and reportedly expressed interest in the baby.
According to the child’s father, the stranger befriended his wife until she was convinced to let her carry the baby. When they crossed to the Centennial Park, his wife reportedly brought water and it was when the woman ran away with the child.
“Ingon tong babae nga gusto daw siya mokugos sa bata kay kato ra daw sya murag naluoy sya kay init daw. Gipakugos daw niya kay murag gi-jamming siya ba. Nagkusa dayon, gipakugos niya. Pagtabok nila didto, namalit man og mineral (water) akong asawa, paglingi daw niya, nawala na daw tong babae daw, mao to perti niyang syagit diha,” the baby’s father said earlier.
