Two separate forest fires hit parts of Tuba, Benguet on February 20, 2024 and lasted for a day.
Fire out was declared by 11:30 a.m. on February 21, 2024.
The first fire broke out in Barangay Tabaan in the morning. By midday, another fire broke out in Barangay Camp 6, near Kennon Road and the Philippine Military Academy.
As of this writing, authorities are still investigating the incident to determine the cause.
They are looking into the possibility that hot weather conditions may have triggered the blaze.
On February 11, a forest fire spread up to three hectares across Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has recorded up to 33 forest fires in Cordillera in the first few weeks of 2024, from January 1 to February 6.
On February 7, the bureau was battling at least five simultaneous fires in Itogon, Bokod, and Atok in Benguet and in Bontoc in the Mountain Province.
