Just hours after two forest fires were placed under control in Tuba, Benguet, another one broke out around midnight on February 21, 2024.
The fire broke out at a portion of Mount Sto. Tomas around the areas of Sitio Leb-ang and Tabaan Sur in Tuba.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was quick to respond to the fire as it crept close to power poles and a transmitter relay station.
The Philippine Air Force air assets joined in the efforts, scooping water from the Sto. Tomas Water Basin and dumping it on the fire.
"Iyong apoy ay napigilan sa may perimeter fence ng mga regional network groups na tower doon. Sa ngayon, iyong sa isang side ang hinihintay natin ngayon kung lalapit ang apoy o hindi," SFO3 Orvil Dumacas, Chief Operations of Tuba Fire Station, said.
The Baguio City Information Office issued a public warning, advising residents to use masks and stay indoors because of the smoke and ash that had reached the city.
"Our health office now is getting data on our air quality at present, kasi may haze na parang may fumes siya na might be coming from the forest fire sa Tuba, Benguet," Aileen Refuerzo, a Baguio City Information Officer, said.
Incidents of forest fires were reported separately in Camp 4 and Camp 6 in Tuba, Benguet.
As of this writing, firefighters continue to extinguish the fire.
