A woman is now in hot water after allegedly selling repeatedly a disputed lot in Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Complaints against the woman piled up at the Office of Mayor Junard Chan. As of this writing, complainants already reached 37.
A recent buyer of the lot found to be under litigation yet raised the complaint at the mayor’s office.
On February 19, 2024, some 18 people claimed they have been victims to the woman’s modus. However, on February 21, 2024, the complainants reached 37.
Some complainants are from Tacloban City in Leyte, while some are from Bohol.
The woman allegedly sold the lot at P5,000 per square meter. Previous buyers shelled out reportedly a total of P4.8 million in payments.
The recent buyer of the lot said that she first read of the woman’s post on a virtual marketplace. She narrated that she saw the post in November 2023 about a lot in Purok Lubi sold at P5,000 per square meter. She added that she was able to haggle with the woman for P4,500 per square meter.
In their online conversations, she further said that the woman was able to share documents on the lot.
She decided to buy a 100-square-meter property at P450,000 on December 1, 2023 and that she was with her parents when she paid the lot in cash.
However, the following day, she read a “public awareness” post done by fellow netizens who complained of bogus sale, or who were duped allegedly by the woman.
She also learned that a neighbor of the woman already bought the lot in 2022, and paid some P660,000 that remains unrefunded yet.
Canjulao Barangay Chairman Rufo Bering said it was last year when he started issuing Certificate to File Action against the woman after a number of complaints against her was lodged at the barangay hall.
In a meeting with Mayor Chan, the woman vowed to return about P400,000 of the amount to the complainants. She also mentioned of other real estate agents she would tag along in the next meeting.
However, she failed to show up at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.
Chan said the woman called up to inform him that she is having a hard time collecting P400,000 to initially return payments made by the complainants.
Chan stated that the City Government of Lapu-Lapu is determined to assist the complainants in filing cases against the woman.
