Baguio City's air quality has returned to normal levels as of February 26, 2024 even as forest fires continue to persist in Benguet Province.
While the use of masks is not mandatory, it is still recommended, especially for individuals with respiratory ailments.
"Yung ash fall, mayroong naghuhulog kapag humangin ng malakas kasi nagsusundo kami sa Mabini School… may naghuhulugang ash noong Tuesday, nag-umpisa noong Tuesday, ngayon wala na,” Jennifer, a resident said.
Mayor Benjie Magalong said the city's 80 mobile and five static air quality sensors help monitor and assess the air quality.
"Maganda na [ang air quality] because we have these sensors. Mayroon tayong 80 mobile sensors at limang static sensors. Nakita naman namin na significantly bumaba na ‘yung ating particulates, at nakita namin in terms ng quality ng air, gumanda na, [at] andoon na naman tayo sa good na naman," Magalong said.
According to the latest report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cordillera, seven forest fires are still being suppressed as of February 26, 2024.
Three are in Itogon, two in Bokod, and one each in Tuba and Kabayan.
"Yung iba medyo nag-spread, considering kasi ‘yung high velocity natin [at] strong wind condition kaya medyo nahahangin. Ngayon, medyo nagre-reignite [yung sunog], pero naka-under control pa rin, manageable pa rin ng tropa natin sa ground," FSInsp. Bernard Bravo, the Chief of Intelligence and Investigation Branch, BFP-CAR, said.
