Four were confirmed dead in a dawn fire in Barangay Tinago, Cebu City on February 27, 2024.
Eight other members of the family were also reported to have sustained burns in various parts of their body.
The fire broke out at 1:43 a.m. in a residential area in Sitio Santa Lucia that was raised to first alarm by 1:46 a.m; second alarm at 2 a.m., and third alarm at 2:23 a.m.
The fire was raised to fourth alarm by 2:43 a.m.
The fatalities were identified as members of the Otadoy family - Parolito, the father; Rosita, the mother; and their two sons - Joseph and Jeffrey, ages undetermined yet as of posting time.
Monaliza Otadoy, a daughter, identified the remains to be those of her parents and siblings.
According to the report, the firetrucks were not able to penetrate the area at once because of narrow alleys where only motorcycles and persons can pass through. Firefighters had to interlink first their hoses to be able to reach the affected area.
The fire was placed under control at 4:48 p.m. and put out completely at past 5 a.m.
All four bodies were already retrieved as of posting time.
The fire destroyed 16 houses, affected over 30 families, and left damages worth P7 million, according to fire investigators.
