The Iloilo City Government will serve 25 more closure orders to boarding houses without business permit on February 28, 2024.
Norman Tabud, head of the Business Permits and Licensing Division, said that 16 of 25 are located in La Paz district, and nine in the district of Jaro.
Earlier, Mayor Jerry Treñas signed 40 closure orders. Another 12 closure orders were issued on February 27, 2024.
To recall, two persons died in a fire that broke out in a boarding house in Barangay San Nicolas, La Paz on February 18, 2024.
The victims were found later to be a female call center agent and a male engineering student.
Investigation after the incident disclosed that over 60 boarding houses in the city failed to secure a business permit and to comply with fire safety standards.
