The local sea patrol arrested several individuals engaged in alleged illegal activities that could damage the waters of Juban, Sorsogon.
The incident happened during a routine sea-borne patrol conducted by the Coast Guard in Juban.
Authorities found out that the suspects had used a compressor without authorization.
Instead of cooperating, the suspects allegedly resisted and attempted to flee.
Coast Guard personnel chased them to Barangay Rizal in Sorsogon City but when the fishermen disembarked from their boats, they allegedly pulled out bladed weapons.
Authorities remained on their boat and called for reinforcement.
"Tumawag yung pulis ng back-up.
Rudy Divinagracia, the Chief of Police of Juban, said.
Barangay officials of Rizal intervened to calm the conflicting parties.
Tapos, yung hinuhuli nila, hinabol pala nila hanggang dito mismo sa Rizal [sa Sorsogon City]," Samuel Bobier of Rizal, a councilman of Rizal, said.
In the end, five involved in illegal fishing were arrested and the boat they used was confiscated.
