Fish stranding was again observed in the Municipality of Argao, southern Cebu Province on February 29, 2024 at around 4 p.m.

Netizen Glaiza Teo uploaded a video on residents collecting “malangsi” or “mangsi” (goldstripe sardinella) that appeared in the waters at the Argao town port.

Persons went down the pier to collect the fish stranded at the port's paved ledge and threw them to persons up the port ready with their cellophanes and containers.

Meanwhile, at about the same time a fish stranding was also observed in Barangay San Roque in the town of Ginatilan again.

Residents went home with basins and pails full of “tuloy” (sardine).

To recall, fish stranding was noticed from February 11 to 13, 2024 in Poblacion, Ginatilan.

According to Mario Ruinata, regional director (officer in charge) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 7, said that the abundance of fish shows the benefits of the three-month closed fishing season.

Key fishing grounds in the country such as the Visayan Sea were closed to commercial fishing from November 15, 2023 to February 15, 2024.
