Malacañang has clarified that March 11 is NOT a holiday, formally dismissing the rumors that claim the exact opposite, supposedly due to the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
In a post made by the Official Gazette of the Philippines, Malacañang’s public journal, it was verified that a circulating document has been falsely claiming March 11 to be a nationwide holiday.
Official Gazette’s statement reads in full:
“ATTENTION: The circulating document labeled “Proclamation No. 729,” which purportedly declares Monday, March 11, 2024, as a nationwide regular holiday in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, is spurious.
It is a tampered version of Proclamation No. 729, s. 2019, issued by then Executive Secretary Medialdea during the previous administration.”
Eid al-Fitr is a major holiday celebrated within Islam that commemorates the final day of the month of Ramadan. According to a report by GMA Integrated News, the government has not released any proclamation thus far regarding the said holiday.
