A feeling of disquiet has struck Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office because of the apparent effects of dry weather on dam water level in the province.

The water is on limited supply as the sweltering heat causes quick evaporation of water.

In February 2024, water at the dam of Bago Irrigation System reached critical level. The critical level hinders the other irrigation system from providing farmlands with water. One of this is in Barangay Taloc, Bago City where farmers worry over receding water as the dry spell wears on.

Vegetation have wilted apparently. Aside from rice, sugarcane is also affected.

According to the United Sugar Producers Federation (Unifed), an estimated 100,000 hectares of sugarcane land are affected.

According to Manuel Lamata, president of Unifed, damages already reached the billion-peso mark.
