A truck carrying more than 500 kilos of pork products from Davao City was intercepted at a checkpoint in General Santos City.

These products include pork chorizo, lumpia shanghai, and pork bones.

The owner reportedly failed to show documents for the products, prompting personnel of the City Veterinarian’s Office to confiscate the items.

Authorities burned the seized pork products immediately.

General Santos City is said to be one of the top producers of live hogs, transporting around 15,000 live hogs once every two weeks to Manila and other parts of Luzon.

“We are maintaining General Santos City as green status. We are strictly enforcing the ordinance no. 23 na bawal magpasulod og baboy coming from the other areas, even the live and meat products of the swine,” City Veterinarian’s Office Head, Dr. Emilio Gargaran, said.

It can be recalled that several pigs in Barangays Apopong and Baluan have tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) in 2022 and it affected the city’s hog industry.

The City Veterinarian’s Office continues to take steps to prevent the spread of ASF.
