The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Camarines Norte is giving particular attention to road projects in the province, several of which residents have complained of for allegedly being substandard.

Several roads are under scrutiny due to suspected substandard workmanship, based on findings of the DPWH inspection conducted in coordination with the Committee on Infrastructure of the Provincial Board.

Meanwhile, ongoing projects are being monitored strictly to ensure compliance with construction standards.

According to DPWH, contractors will not receive payment if the roads are found to be substandard, unless they rectify the issues.

Contractors who are found to be complicit in anomalies may be blacklisted such that they could no longer bid for future projects with DPWH.

“Ang project natin, may warranty period yan na within that warranty period dapat nasa kargopa yan nila. Once na magkaroon yan ng defects, susulatan namin yan, pag di nila inanuhan yan, sinasabing blacklisted sila," Engr. Edwin Bermal, District Engineer of the 1st District Sub-DEO, said.
