Five fishermen were rescued after their fishing boat nearly sank off Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Personnel of the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga del Norte and PNP Maritime Group responded to a distress call and rescued the five fishermen.
Authorities said the fishermen were pulling their fishing nets when the boat’s captain noticed a hole near the engine, prompting them to head back to shore in Aliguay Island.
Before they could reach the shore, however, the engine shut down when the hole got bigger and seawater seeped into the boat. The captain believed the log that was floating at sea they hit may have punched the hole in the boat.
The boat was towed to a port in Dapitan City and the fishermen were transported home safely.
