A woman died while her husband was injured after their tricycle was hit by a car and, subsequently, by a delivery van in Legazpi City, Albay.

CCTV footage captured the moment the car rear-ended the tricycle. The impact caused the tricycle to veer off its lane and get hit by the approaching delivery van. The couple was thrown off unto the street.

The husband and wife sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital but the woman passed away. The husband is in critical condition, as of this writing.

They were on their way home from the public market where the woman worked as a vendor when they met the accident.

"Sobrang sakit kan ginibo mo sa aki ko, dinulagan mo! Nabayaan an duwa kong apo na menor de edad. Pinabaayan mo sa kalsada, kun ika nagpundo, pigtabangan mo ini, dinara mo sa ospital, baka nabuhay pa ini," Josephine Nasol, the mother of the woman, said.

The driver of the car fled immediately but surrendered subsequently to the Legazpi City Police Station (CPS). He said he did not turn himself in immediately out of fear and that he learned that the woman had died only at the police station.

"An sabi niya, dae po daa siya nakapag-apresir tulos dahil sa takot. An pagkaaram niya, warang gadan. Kan pagpresentar niya digdi sa police station, saka niya lang naaraman na ito po, gadan palan si sarong biktima duman," PEMS Henry Llona Mirafuentes, Chief Traffic Investigator at Legazpi CPS, said.

The driver and his car are now in police custody. Meanwhile, the driver of the delivery van was not arrested and he is set to speak with the family of the couple.

As of this writing, the family of the couple is yet to decide whether or not they will pursue legal action or agree to a settlement.
