A total of 160 vats of fish were gathered by fishermen in Barangay Igcadlum in San Joaquin town, Iloilo Province in the early morning of May 20, 2024, Wednesday.

A group of fishermen said that mackerel scad referred to locally as “tabodios” came close to their fishing boats attracted reportedly to the lumination.

At least 120 vats were sold while the other 40 vats were divided among residents to consume.

According to the local Fisheries Report Officer of the Local Government Unit of San Joaquin, this is the first time that such number of fish appeared off the said barangay. This is possibly because of changes in water temperature and as fish search for food, San Joaquin Fisheries Report Officer Grezl Cariaga said.

“Monsoon man kag sa winds naton eh. Amo na nga nagsunod man, amo man ang pag-ano sang isda bala, pagdamo nila. Kag ang pag-surface nila because of nutrients,” Cariaga said.
