A bus conductor was killed while 22 others, including the driver, were injured after a passenger bus crashed into a container van in Monkayo, Davao de Oro on Sunday, March 24, 2024.

The fatality was identified as Riann Mamusog, 32.

Police said the bus was transporting 21 passengers to Butuan City from Davao City when the accident happened in Purok 9, Barangay Baylo. The bus driver reportedly did not immediately notice the container van, which was left on the inner lane on the road after it experienced engine trouble. A signage that was put up was also not very visible, police said.

The bus rammed into the back of the container van. 

The passengers who were injured were taken to the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, as of this writing. 

“Basi sa investigation, ang signage ng container van dili kaayo klaro. Nagbutang siya og mga improvised nga mga signage mga dahon dahon. Mao to nabulaga ang bus,” Monkayo Municipal Police Traffic Investigator, Corporal Mark Lozarita, said.
