Four police officers in Zamboanga City are in hot water after a businessman filed an extortion complaint against them.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9) Director, Brigadier General Bowenn Joey Masauding, has ordered the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) to start a criminal and administrative investigation against three members of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) and a member of the Zamboanga City Police Station 3.

The complainant, an owner of oil feeders from Pagadian City, said the alleged extortion happened on March 21, 2024 along the MCLL Highway in Barangay Manicahan.

The four cops were ordered to explain and answer the allegation as part of standard administrative procedures.

“The integrity and professionalism of PRO9 are of utmost importance, and any misconduct or abuse of authority will not be tolerated,” Masauding said.

"We are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in this matter,” he added.

PRO-9 and ZCPO said the police ‘remain dedicated to transparently addressing this issue and maintaining the trust and confidence of the community they serve.’
