Earthworks seen on a mountain in Barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban town, midwest Cebu for a site development are not a project of the Cebu provincial government, according to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Garcia, in an interview, said that the road access is a project of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Aerial photographs of the highland with bald spots went viral.
The governor said that the provincial government has not shelled a single centavo on the project as it is DPWH’s form of assistance to Capitol from the national government.
She confirmed though that the place is identified as the site for the new Capitol building. However, she pointed out that negotiations between the Province and the landowners are still ongoing.
The construction of a new provincial government center in Balamban, she added, is seen to decongest traffic in Cebu City, to bring the provincial government services nearer to constituents, and to spread further development to 44 towns and six component cities that are part of Cebu Province's political jurisdiction.
As of posting time, DPWH is yet to release a statement on the site development.
