The former captain of Barangay Anislag in Daraga, Albay escaped death after unidentified suspects fired shots at the car he was driving in Barangay Mariawa, Legazpi City on his way home.
Police said the ambush appeared to be an isolated case but investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and identify the perpetrators.
"Yung ambush ay isolated case tapos ongoing po ang investigation ng Legazpi City Police Office, police station, tapos lahat ng anggulo po ay pinapatingnan natin," PBGEN. Andre Dizon, the Regional Director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-5, said.
The barangay captain, Alwin Nimo, believes the ambush may be connected to a legal battle in relation to alleged jueteng operations in the province.
Nimo said he has received reports of potential threats to his safety after he filed the legal case.
"Right after na ma-file yung kaso, hindi ako lumalabas na hindi ako naka-bullet proof kasi nga may mga intel report na talagang ita-trabaho ako," Nimo said.
