Two people died while 22 others were injured when the jeepney they were riding crashed into a tree in Lobo, Batangas.

The passengers were on their way home from a beach outing in Barangay Malabrigo, Lobo, Batangas.

The Lobo Municipal Police said the accident happened as the jeep was traveling downhill. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

"Medyo nataranta na rin 'yung driver, medyo nag-swerve siya ng pakaliwa't kanan ayon doon sa isa sa mga survivor na katabi niya, but tumama siya sa railings po ng daan po," PMAJ. Amadeo Baby Estrella III, Chief of the Lobo Police Station, said.

The driver and one passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while the 22 other occupants suffered from various injuries.

Police said that the jeepney was overloaded.

"Yung jeep po na 'yun is old model na po ang tanda ko po the most na kaya ng mga old model na mga sasakyan is mga eight persons in either sides, at 'yun pong sakay ho nu'n is mga nasa 24 po sila including mga bata po," Estrella said.

The driver was not under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened, the police said.
