Fishermen caught over 216 kilograms of tuna using a fishing technique called 'lambaklad,' in Barangay Dilavo, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
Lambaklad, derived from the words "lambat" (net) and "baklad" (corral), involves placing a large net in the sea to catch fish. It requires at least 10 people to haul the net twice a day, in the morning and afternoon.
The catch is a big help for fishermen, especially during slow fishing days.
"Yung mga nagha-harvest, nagugulat sila kasi malalaki ang nahuhuli namin, gaya ng tuna at blue marlin... after 22 days na, nag-nets on kami, lilinisan namin yung net, tapos 5 days ibibilad, tapos magne-nets on ulit kami," Benedicto Castillo, a barangay councilman, said.
The Municipal Fishery coordinator said that the increase in fish caught is common during the month of April.
"Sa ngayon, ‘yung isda na nakukuha nila ay talagang malaking tulong sa kanilang kabuhayan," Glenda Lagpacan, the Municipal Fishery Coordinator, said.
The fishermen were able to sell the tuna for 250 pesos per kilo.
