Three people died after the tricycle they were riding collided with a bus on the Mc Arthur Highway in Barangay Cili, Binalonan, Pangasinan, on April 4, 2024.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. when the tricycle, driven by a 66-year-old man, crossed paths with an oncoming passenger bus traveling to Tabuk, Kalinga.
The tricycle driver and his passengers, a female college student and a male grade 10 student, died. Two other passengers are in critical condition at the hospital, as of this writing.
Citing the driver’s relatives, the police said the tricycle driver reportedly had problems with his vision and hearing.
“Although aksidente ang nangyari, makikita po natin sa CCTV footage na may lapses po iyong tricycle driver; at based po sa report, senior citizen na [yung tricycle driver, at] based po sa relatives ay allegedly may problema sa pandinig at malabo rin po iyong mata [ng tricycle driver],” PMAJ. Zynon Paiking, Chief of the Binalonan Philippine National Police (PNP), said.
All parties involved have reportedly communicated, and the bus company said it will assist the families of the victims.
Police reminded motorists to exercise caution, especially on highways.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Naglicuan, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, two riders were injured after their motorcycles collided.
PNP investigation revealed that the accident stemmed from both parties failing to yield. One of the people involved is a minor.
The riders who were injured were transported to the hospital. They are reportedly set to talk.
