A portion of a RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessel was damaged and one passenger was injured when the vessel collided with a barge near the Port of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro early dawn on April 3, 2024.

The RORO vessel was traveling the Batangas-Calapan route while the barge, loaded with sacks of cement, was headed for Semirara, Antique from Calaca, Batangas.

According to initial information from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southern Tagalog, the vessel was carrying around 40 passengers and over 40 crew members. 

Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision, as of this writing, but sea conditions were reportedly favorable at the time of the incident.

The passenger who was hurt suffered from lacerations in the face, as well as minor bruises and was taken to the hospital with the help of the Calapan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

There were no reports of an oil spill.

Both the vessel and the barge were docked in Calapan, as of this writing.

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
