One passenger died while three others were injured after a passenger bus crashed onto a roadside post while plying the national highway in upland Barangay Uling, City of Naga, Cebu Province.
The incident happened at past 3 a.m. on April 4, 2024. The bus was headed for Cebu City from the City of Toledo in midwest Cebu. But it rammed onto a post in Sitio Gaway-gaway after steering clear from a dump truck traveling from the opposite direction.
In an investigation by the City of Naga Police, the 37-year-old bus driver said that after sensing brake malfunction, he reckoned crashing the bus onto the post to avoid huge damages.
The fatality was identified as 59-year-old resident of Media Once (pronounced On-se) in Toledo City.
The passenger reportedly got up from her seat and looked out of the window. It was reported that her head hit a signage at the roadside. Medical responders reported that they found her body hanging out of the bus window.
Three other passengers hurt in the accident were rushed to the hospital.
The driver, as of posting time, was detained at the City of Naga Police Station.
Charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple injuries, and damage to properties will be filed against the driver, according to City of Naga Police Station traffic investigator, Police Staff Sergeant Niel Villaceran.
