A 20-year-old student who is set to graduate in May 2024 died after his motorcycle collided head-on with a truck in a road accident in Barangay Quimod, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
The victim was identified as Nathaniel Riduca.
CCTV footage of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) show Riduca speeding.
Riduca attempted to overtake a tricycle but hit it, instead, which made him lose control of his vehicle and collide with an oncoming truck.
“Overtake-kan niya yung tricycle [at] nasagi niya itong tricycle [kaya] hindi niya na-control [yung motor] at pumunta sa opposite lane,” PMAJ Pol Areola, Officer-in-Charge of the Bantay Police Station, said.
Footage shows the motorcycle bursting into flames upon impact.
Riduca’s family was unaware of his whereabouts at the time of the accident.
“Hindi siya nagpaalam sa amin, [ang alam namin] nanggaling siya ng eskwelahan, akala namin nasa bahay na siya ng girlfriend niya… mahirap tanggapin [na patay na siya],” Vilma Riduca, the mother, said.
The driver of the tricycle also sustained injuries from the collision.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) remind drivers of slow-moving vehicles to remain in the outer lane to prevent similar accidents from occurring.
