A 28-year-old insurance agent was shot dead while inside an SUV along Quirino Boulevard in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The victim was identified as Marrione Tugade.
The incident occurred amid traffic, providing an opportunity for the gunmen, who remain unidentified, to get a clear shot.
“Busy street kasi yung along Quirino [Boulevard] so nagkaroon ng traffic, kaya’t nagkaroon ng opportunity ‘yung ating gunman na barilin ‘yung biktima doon sa sasakyan niya,” PLTCOL. Reynando Pitpitan, Acting Chief of the Vigan City Police Station, said.
Authorities suspect that a caliber .45 firearm was used in the attack, and suggest that it was a calculated and brazen act.
The motive behind the crime remains unknown.
Tugade's companion in the vehicle escaped unharmed, according to the police.
CCTV footage obtained by the police showed two men on a motorcycle, believed to be the suspects in the shooting.
“Based doon sa pag-sustain ng wounds doon sa victim, makikita natin na may capability [yung suspek] and ‘yung hindi naka full close ‘yung kanyang helmet, ‘yun din ‘yung way natin para makapag-provide pa tayo ng identity ng suspek,” Pitpitan said.
The investigation continues as of this writing.
