The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 13 fishermen off Olutanga in Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay, the fishing boat encountered engine trouble due to rough sea conditions.

A search and rescue team was deployed to locate the distressed vessel and offer assistance.

The fishermen were rescued safely while the fishing boat was towed to the Olutanga Port.

“The Operation was made successful because of collaborative efforts with concerned civilians who explicit their social responsibility by immediately informing authorities on this kind of emergency,” the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay said.

Meanwhile, two motorized banca were apprehended for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing activity in the waters of Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The fishermen were allegedly caught in the act of conducting illegal fishing practices, known as “Hulbot-hulbot”.

“Illegal Fishing not only threatens the sustainability of our marine resources but also endangers marine life,” the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay added.
