Footage from a closed circuit television camera (CCTV) has confirmed that a four-year-old boy fell from the 27th floor of a condominium in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, authorities said.
The footage was obtained by investigators of the Mabolo Police Station.
However, no footage of the actual fall from the window of the unit where the mother and her child resided was available, according to Police Major Romeo Caacoy, chief of the Mabolo Police Station.
The Office of the Building Official (OBO) has issued a Notice of Violation against the condominium, Architect Florante Catala, OBO chief, said.
The management of the condominium was also directed to submit an incident report.
Police are now looking into the possible liability of the child’s parents.
While the boy was asleep, his mother went out of the unit at around 7 a.m. on April 8, 2024 to get something from the ground floor. She said it was a quick trip and that she was confident to do it because the child was sleeping. Getting back to the unit immediately was also possible through the elevator.
She heard a commotion later and learned that a child had fallen on the canopy at the third floor from the 27th floor. It was her child.
The boy was taken to a private hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was taken home to Davao.
Earlier, the condominium management expressed sympathy and vowed to assist the family.
