One died and another was injured as three vehicles figured in an accident in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The incident was captured on CCTV.

Footage shows a delivery truck reversing on the outer lane of a four-lane road when, suddenly, a tricycle and an SUV arrived. The SUV attempted to overtake the tricycle in the small space between the tricycle and the delivery truck. The SUV ended up hitting the tricycle, causing the tricycle driver to lose control and swerve on the opposite lane.

The tricycle collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle, which threw the drivers off their vehicles onto the pavement. 

The tricycle of the driver, identified as a resident of Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City, died.

The motorcyclist, identified as Julius De Nieva, suffered injuries.

“Pagkakita ko doon sa sasakyan na motor niya, wasak na wasak; hindi ko iisipin na buhay ang anak ko, makita mo lang talaga [na] walang buo doon sa motor na sinasakyan niya,” Corazon De Nieva, the motorcyclist’s mother, said.

According to barangay officials, the driver of the SUV fled the scene without rendering assistance after the collision.

“Dumaan siya sa gilid, hindi siya nag-menor at dire-diretso na siya, bigla niyang iniwan ang mga naaksidente,” Marcial Perreras, Barangay Councilman, said.

The CCTV footage captured the license plate number of the SUV. The driver was tracked down in Urdaneta City in a follow-up operation.

“Kakasuhan namin siya ng reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property,” PLTCPL. Ferdinand Lopez, Officer-in-Charge of the Calasiao Police Station, said.
