Transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) - Cebu chapter staged a picket rally instead of a transport strike beginning 6 a.m. of April 15, 2024.
The 200-member group vowed to resume driving after a short program on their protest action in support to Piston-National chapter and Samahang Mananakay at Nagkakaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (Manibela) in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 office, according to Greg Perez, chairman of Piston-Cebu chapter.
The picket rally is against the franchise consolidation set until April 30, 2024 leading to the phaseout of public utility jeepneys.
However, the picket rally has not affected the availability of public transportation in Cebu City as traditional and modern public utility jeepneys have plied their routes.
