No more than 10 jeepney units in Bicol joined the transport strike slated April 15 and 16, 2024.
The 10 are in Camarines Norte.
Louie Jimenez, vice president of the Manibela Piston Camarines Norte Transport Cooperative, said their participation today is a call to exclude Camarines Norte from areas where jeepney modernization will be implemented.
The group insists its drivers and operators cannot afford to purchase modern units, which will only lead to losses.
Manibela Piston has called to move to October 2024 the extension of the deadline for the expiration of most jeepney franchises.
Jimenez said many may stop operating once modernization is enforced.
As of this writing, there are no modern jeepneys operating in Camarines Norte.
