Several dogs fell ill and eventually died in Barangay Bolaney, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
Owners suspect their pets may have been poisoned as the animals reportedly exhibited symptoms of poisoning like foaming in the mouth.
Among the dogs that died were pets of Ly Cabuay, 28, who said the animals were left outside the house. Cabuay would see the animals later sprawled on the ground and vomiting.
“Paggising namin, nakita namin na nakahandusay na sila, nagsuka hanggang wala na,” Cabuay said.
Witnesses reported seeing unidentified men driving around the area before the dogs were found.
Dogs in neighboring barangays also reportedly suffered a similar fate.
As the police investigate the incidents, they remind the public that animal cruelty is punishable by law.
“May mga batas tayo na nakalagay para sa [proteksyon ng] mga alagang hayop, kung ito’y lalasunin ay may kaukulang parusa,” PCPT. Renan Dela Cruz, the Public Information Officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said.
The Animal Kingdom Foundation has condemned the incident strongly.
“Yan ay form ng animal cruelty, ang paglalason ay bawal sa ating batas; that will never be acceptable for whatever reasons,” Atty. Heidi Caguiog, the Program Director, said.
