A 63-year-old woman died in a fire that hit her home in Barangay San Juan, Canaman, Camarines Sur.
Her husband, a former village captain, sustained burns on various parts of his body as he was trying to escape.
Reports had it that the woman went back inside the house possibly to retrieve the money left there.
“Ang sinasabi ninda kwarta yata ang binalikan, nakalaag sa cabinet. Kung mahihiling ta si gadan si victim, mayo na siya sa higdaan paluwas na talaga siya,” SFO4 Melchor Villanueva, Officer-in-Charge of the Canaman Bureau of Fire Protection, said.
Arvin Fuerte, a relative of the victim, said they did not notice the fire immediately because they were asleep when it broke out. They had just come from a reunion the night before.
“Hindi ko po agad napansin yung sunog dala tulog na po kami, galing kasi kami ng reunion ng [April] 13 ng gabi,” Fuerte said.
As of this writing, authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with one of the possibilities being faulty electrical wiring.v
Authorities remind the public that it is important to inspect electrical wirings at home regularly to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
