Three dead sea turtles were found dead in Camarines Norte, along the shore in Barangay San Jose, Talisay and in Barangay Gumaus, Paracale.

According to the Talisay Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), one of the sea turtles found in Talisay was a female green sea turtle measuring 36 inches long and 27.1 inches wide.

According to data from the Camarines Norte Maritime Police, at least seven sea turtles were found dead in the province in 2024.

As they investigate the cause of the turtles’ death, authorities urged the public anew to dispose of their waste properly so the trash will not end up at sea and get ingested by marine animals like turtles, which can cause their death.

“Minsan po nakakakain ng basura ang pawikan [at ito ang nagiging] sanhi po ng pagkamatay nila. Kaya nananawagan po [ako], bilang isang barangay captain, dun po sa community po na iwasan po natin magtapon ng basura sa karagatan,” Joseph Encinas, Barangay Captain of San Jose, said.

MENRO Talisay advised residents to report other similar incidents.

“Kung meron pong insidente o ganitong bagay na balita, ipagbigay alam po sa barangay o sa LGU (Local Government Unit) kung saan po sila malapit,” Jocel Mae Castro, a staff from MENRO Talisay, said.
