A century-old house in Barangay San Clemente, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur was razed by fire caused by an electric fan that was plugged but was left unattended.

No one was injured but damage is estimated at P800,000.

Jojo Rubio, the homeowner, attempted to salvage belongings but failed. No items were saved from the ancestral house.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) put the fire out after almost an hour.

According to the BFP, an electric fan plugged in the kitchen and was left unattended caused the fire.

“Sa inisyal na investigation namin, unattended na electric fan [ang cause]. Hindi naaalis [yung saksak] ng matagal na araw,” SFO4 Robin Rafanan, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal of Magsingal BFP, said.

Rubio is calling for assistance, saying he has saved nothing.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga nais tumulong, wala akong naisalbang damit,” Rubio said.

Authorities remind residents to unplug appliances and close the circuit breaker before leaving home.

“Siguraduhin na naalis yung mga appliances nila, at kung aalis ng bahay dapat isara na in yung circuit breaker para mas safe at sigurado,” Rafanan said.
