A 39-year-old man in Davao City was hacked to death by his drinking buddy after he allegedly insulted the latter’s religion.

Police said the 23-year-old suspect got furious when the victim allegedly disrespected his religion. The suspect got offended and an altercation between the two ensued, which resulted in the hacking.

“Naay panaglalis nga nahitabo during sa ilang panag-inum kay kaning biktima nato, murag nainsulto kining suspek regarding sa relihiyon ba. Mao to sa panaglalis, wala kabalo ang biktima, ang katong suspek diay, nasuko na gyud sa iyaha,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Tuazon, said.

Authorities arrested the suspect who refused to give a statement.

The victim’s family said the victim and the suspect did not know each other personally and they just met during a drinking session.

“Ako gyud siyang pasakahan og kaso nga para magkat-on ba nga basig.. mao puy dapat buhaton sa mga taong nakasala pud ba kay kanang ing-ana nga butang nga mupatay lang ka tungod lang ana nga mga rason, dili pud siguro valid para mupatay ka og tao,” the victim’s family said.

The victim’s family also wants an autopsy on the body of the victim to ascertain the cause of death.

The suspect was charged with murder.
