A 38-year-old delivery boy of LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) in Lingayen, Pangasinan is forced to pay for the LPG he has delivered after a customer paid him with fake money amounting to P1,000.

Arthur Versoza, the victim, recounted that he visited four barangays, namely Naguelguel, Libsong, Baay, and Maniboc, to deliver 10 LPG tanks.

He received a P1,000 bill as payment, which he kept quickly in his pocket. He did not check the bill because he trusted he would get paid properly.

It was only when he was remitting his earnings that he found out the P1,000 bill was fake. The bill was checked using a money detector.

Due to the incident, Versoza will have to cover the cost of the tanks he delivered to customers.

He appealed for his customers to be honest since his daily earning of P350 is barely enough to support his family.

“Nakakapang-hinayang [yung nangyari], kasi syempre — kasi nagda-drive ako at nagbubuhat ng mabigat tapos ‘yung kikitain ko para sa pamilya ay wala na… nagta-trabaho na walang kita,” Versoza said.

Gomer Gomez, a Senior Research Specialist at BSP-North Luzon, advised people to scrutinize money carefully.

“Itatagilid natin ang pera para makita ang iba pang security features gaya ng security thread, ‘yung concealed value, at optically variable ink,” Gomez said.

Versoza plans to report the incident to the police station.

Authorities encouraged the public to report similar incidents instead of resorting to social media, for swift action to be taken.
