A 36-year-old man died while his 66-year-old mother was injured after a truck crashed into a store in Barangay Mabinit, Legazpi City on April 18, 2024.

According to the police, the truck, loaded with quarry materials, lost control and veered into the store, where the mother and son happened to be.

“Bigla nalang may puminutok, diretso natambunan ako,” Mercy Lorin, the mother, said.

Lorin suffered from injuries when debris fell on her while her son got pinned down by the truck and died. 

Authorities said that the crash was due to tire malfunction.

“Yung unahang parte kan goma kan truck nahulog ini, ini an kawsa kan pagbangga pasiring duman sa harong,” PEMS. Henry Llona Mirafuentes, Traffic Investigator of the Legazpi City Police Station, said.

The truck driver is facing multiple charges, including homicide and damage to property.

Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid speeding to prevent such accidents in the future.

“Siguro su mga drivers, mga truck drivers kan quarry dapat pag sa barangay bako arug kaiyan pagpadalagan ninda dapat luway-luway lang,”  Dennis Nuñez, the Barangay Captain of Mabinit, said.
