Iloilo City is declared under a state of calamity because of water scarcity.

In a special session of the Iloilo City Council on April 22, 2024, the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council submitted a report of 25 barangays in the city affected by the water crisis.

Under a state of calamity, the city government can use Quick Respond Fund (QRF) worth P12.5 million to address the crisis.

Additional fund is possible depending on a survey on other affected barangays in the city.

“Ang 15 percent pinag-aaralan yan, so chosen ang 25 barangays out of 180. Pero ongoing tayo all over Iloilo,” Iloilo City Councilor Rudolf Ganzon said.

“Iba talaga noon. Ang tubig kasi ngayon, makikita mo, lalo na sa labas sa balon na iba,” Nora Olmeda, a resident, said.
