The Department of Education (DepEd) has clarified that a social media post on two teachers in the Province of Iloilo who died from heat stroke while conducting classes in Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School is “highly inaccurate and misleading.”

According to Leonil Salvilla, spokesperson of DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo, two teachers died from aneurysm and from the complications of hypertension, not heat stroke.

Salvilla said that a teacher passed away last February 2024 from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, while the other one died in March 2024 from aneurysm.

“In both instances, the teachers were reportedly at home,” reads a statement released by DepEd on April 23, 2024 after verifying with DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo.

“It is unfortunate that certain news outlets resort to sensationalizing the death of our teachers at the expense of true and factual reporting,” the statement added.
