An eight-year-old boy drowned while his 14-year-old sister and his aunt were rescued after swimming at an abandoned beach resort in Barangay Dahican, Mati City, Davao Oriental morning on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

According to the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, the aunt reportedly tried to save the boy but failed. Responders were able save the 14-year-old and the aunt who are now in stable condition.

On the other hand, the body of the eight-year-old victim was found on midday and did not reach the hospital alive.

The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao Oriental extended its sympathies to the bereaved family and thanked those who took part in the rescue operation.

“The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental headed by Lt. Vincent Bryan Marcos extends its sincerest gratitude to the local community, lifeguards from nearby resorts and members of Mati Water Sports Association who highly contributed to the success of the said operation,” CGS Davao Oriental said.

Authorities reminded the public anew to follow safety protocols when swimming to prevent drowning incident.

“CGS Davao Oriental urges the public to always take precautionary measures and adhere to maritime safety guidelines at all times,” CGS Davao Oriental added.
