Members of transport groups beat the deadline for the processing of franchise consolidation on April 30, 2024, the last day for filing of dcouments, after an extended deadline was set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Liaison officers of various transport cooperatives in Metro Cebu raced for tthe deadline at 5 p.m. Most of those who had to beat the deadline were found to have been hoping for another extension of the deadline.

The deadline was set originally on December 31, 2024.

LTFRB Central Visayas Director Eduardo Montealto, Jr. said that based on their list, around 9,000 public utility jeepneys (PUJs) are already consolidated, posting 86.4 percent.

PUJs that will remain plying their route after the deadline will be apprehended beginning May 2, 2024.

PUVs that refused to undergo franchise consolidation are given the option to drop from the jurisdiction of LTFRB so the status of their PUVs could revert to private vehicles. Else, they are to face higher fines if proven to have still used their vehicles for ferrying or transporting passengers.
